This week, I got the privilege to guest on one of my absolute favorite podcasts, play a few of my compositions, and talk video game music with the ever-kmowledgable and oh-so-friendly Leon Cox. Give it a listen!
caneandrinse.com/sound-of-play-105/ "The Age of Decadence" has recently received quite the accolades over at RPGCodex, being voted their second best RPG of the past five years, directly behind "Witcher 3"!
Dungeon Rats has been released! I have really enjoyed composing music and designing sound for this game, and you can check out the fruits of our labor on Steam at:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/531930/Dungeon_Rats/ ABOUT THIS GAME Starting out as a new prisoner at the bottom of the gangs-ruled prison hierarchy, and of the prison itself, you must fight to survive and develop your combat skills, acquiring better weapons and equipment as you go. Recruit allies to your struggle or carry on as a lone wolf, and kill anyone foolish enough to stand in your way.Features include:
You know, a composer tries to just write a simple song about a Dungeon in the bowels of Hell and....
...100 tracks later.... Starting a wonderful new project for the Iron Tower Studio team called "Dungeon Rats"!! It's a dungeon crawler set in the Age of Decadence universe. Expect some dark music with strong hints of world and fantasy elements.
I have posted a new videogame composition and sound design reel! Many thanks to Wilson Large - creator of Dark Darkness - for the menu animation wizardry! This video features some of my work on The Age of Decadence - which I am quite fond of - as well as many others (some of which were really hard to track down videos of!). Enjoy!
After many years in development, "The Age of Decadence" has finally been released! It has been a true pleasure to compose music for this gem of a game. A real, old-school, hardcore RPG, this is just the game that the world needs (at least I think so)! Get it on now Steam! store.steampowered.com/app/230070/The_Age_of_Decadence/ I stumbled across a contest a couple days ago. Turns out Hans Zimmer composed a brand new theme, and the contestants get to remix/recompose/ deconstruct the theme to their heart's content, with Zimmer and a panel of other industry professionals choosing the best 3 of the bunch. Fortunately for me, Hans Zimmer is my absolute favorite film composer, and the idea that he might possibly listen to something I worked on is enough to make me scream like a little girl and faint. Unfortunately for me was the fact that I only had 3 days to complete said "theme reconstruction".
And so, 2 and a half sleepless nights later, I give you "The Little Ones, We Marched (and Fell)", my contribution to the contest. I am still a bit unclear as to how the winners are picked. It seems as though "Phase One" is decided by Soundcloud "likes", with the survivors (however many they choose to let through - again, its unclear) facing the judges panel on-route to the "Final 3" prize winners. In other words, if you have a Soundcloud account, you can go to my track, click "Like", and quite possibly make my dreams come true. Just sayin'. Listen to my "Bleeding Fingers Contest" contribution here: http://www.hanszimmerwantsyou.com/tracks/5399 Well, just like that, and a year has past me by. And what a year!
Our little Emry Josephine Paul was born on September 9th, and life has been wonderfully hectic ever since. I thought it was hard being a struggling composer BEFORE having a baby. And yeah, it's much harder with a baby in tow. Once sleep and recreation become a complete luxury, it's amazing how quickly your perspective on the precariousness of time shifts. BUT STILL, things have been quite busy for I, your humble, blue-collar composer. Before Christmas, I composed for a wonderful little comedy called Trendi, written and directed by Ben Derrick. It had its premiere at the Harrogate Royal Hall in the UK, which is kind of interesting for me. Secondly, a demo was released for The Age of Decadence, an upcoming PC roleplaying game for which I have been composing. It's pretty danged awesome, and you really should give it a try, especially if you are into old-school rpgs like Fallout or Balder's Gate. Watch the Trailer. Finally, if you just happen to find yourself watching When Vacations Attack on the Travel Channel (and we all find ourselves watching reality TV from time-to-time, just admit it) you are bound to hear a bit of my music, as it is used in just about every episode of the season (I wonder if my cello ushers some disaster in some jello, or the sound of the snare beckons forth some burning hair?). There is another project, not yet released (so I must be somewhat discrete). But I can say that it entails zombies and bluegrass music! At last! Stay tuned! |
